South East winner at 2022 HSE Spark Innovation Programme “Bright Spark” awards
"The Exchange" Communication Hub was developed as part of HSE Spark Innovation Programme “Bright Spark” awards.
The awards are based on projects grant-aided by the HSE’s Spark Innovation Programme within the organisation’s own services and those of voluntary and community services supported with HSE funding through Section 38 and 39 of the Health Act.
The Dept. of Psychiatry (DoP) is a 44 bed facility based on the grounds of University Hospital Waterford and serves the Waterford and Wexford mental health areas. As an improvement for its service users, “The Exchange” communications hub was developed for residents safely and privately contacting family and friends during the pandemic.
Clinical Nurse Specialist Paul Phelan and team at the Dept. of Psychiatry (DoP) acute inpatient facility contacted Bonmahon Joinery in regards to there innovative Old Style Phone Box idea and specification. So, we put pen to paper and manufactured "The Exchange" Communication Hub. Designing the comminication hub we had the design in mind but we had some specifications to incorporate with out drastically changing the look of the old telephone box spec, therefore it needed to be wheel chair accessible, have anti-ligature ironmongery and have high impact vision panels which allow light in but give the patients using the Hub complete privacy.
Bonmahon Joinery were delight to be able to assist Paul and team in winning such an award, and we would also like to acknowledge and thank them on all the work they do with-in the HSE on a day to day basis!
